Premco EpoxLaminate
HIGH-STRENGTH, HIGH-MODULUS STRUCTURAL EPOXY PASTE ADHESIVE FOR USE WITH CARBON FIBER LAMINATE PLATE REINFORCEMENT SYSTEM
Premco Laminate Epoxy Adhesive is a two-component, high modulus, structural epoxy paste adhesive designed for use with PremcoLaminate. It is suitable for application on vertical surfaces, as well as in horizontal and overhead-oriented holes. Its primary uses include fairing and leveling uneven concrete, filling wide cracks, gaps, and voids in concrete and masonry, bonding rigid construction materials such as hardened concrete, masonry, stone, steel, and wood to themselves or each other, and anchoring bolts, dowels, and rebar into horizontal and overhead oriented holes in concrete, masonry, or stone. The product is ideal for applications that involve significant manual labor due to restricted access to the substrate. Premco Laminate Epoxy Adhesive bonds to dry, damp, and wet (no free-standing water) substrates and can be applied up to 1/2 inch thick without sag or flow. Additionally, its components do not contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
SPECIAL FEATURE: Can be extended with Part C (Ceramic Filler) for thick overhead patching & filling.
Limitation
Minimum substrate and ambient temperature: 5°C (41°F). Maximum substrate and ambient temperature: 35°C (95°F). Do not thin the mixture with solvents, as this will prevent proper curing. Use oven-dried aggregate only. The maximum glue line thickness for neat epoxy is 3 mm (1/8 in), and the maximum epoxy mortar thickness per lift is 25 mm (1 in). The material acts as a vapor barrier after curing. The minimum adhesive strength of the concrete substrate should be 1.5 MPa (218 psi). Concrete should be at least 21 to 28 days old, depending on curing and drying conditions, before applying the product. Test porous substrates for moisture-vapor transmission before applying mortar.
Packaging & Colors: The standard package sizes for Part A & Part B are 2 and 10 gallons, and the standard color is concrete gray.
Chemical Resistance: Premco Laminate Epoxy adhesive has excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals including acids, bases, aircraft and automotive fluids, and cutting oils. Chemical resistance depends on the specific chemical, concentration, exposure times, and housekeeping procedures. For information on specific chemicals and exposure conditions, please contact an Premco technical representative.
Surface Preparation: Surface preparation should involve cleaning and ensuring the surface is sound. It may be dry or damp, but free of standing water and frost. Remove dust, laitance, grease, curing compounds, impregnations, waxes, foreign particles, disintegrated materials, and other bond-inhibiting materials from the surface. Use an appropriate repair mortar to fill existing uneven surfaces.
Verify concrete adhesive strength after surface preparation by random pull-off testing (ACI 503R) at the engineer’s discretion, with a minimum tensile strength of 1.5 MPa (218 psi) and concrete substrate failure. Check the flatness of the substrate with a metal batten, with a tolerance of 10 mm (3/8 in) for a length of 2 m (6.5 ft), 100 mm (3.937 in) for a length of 2.5 m (8.2 ft), and 100 mm (3.937.01 in) for a length of 100 m (328 ft).
Concrete: Blast clean, shot blast, or use other approved mechanical methods to create an open, roughened texture (CSP 5) on steel surfaces. Sandblast to achieve a white metal finish.
Timber: Blast clean or grind. After cleaning, remove all dust from the
surface with an industrial vacuum cleaner.
Premco Carbon Fiber Laminate: Please ensure the surface is clean by using an appropriate cleaner. Next, use a clean white cloth with acetone to wipe the side that will receive adhesive (this side is not labeled) until all residual carbon dust is removed. You can consider the surface clean when the white cloth remains white after wiping the laminate. If the design requires “stacking” of the strips, lightly sand the bottom surface of the labeled strip using emery paper type 180 and clean it as described above before applying the second strip.
Shelf Life: Three years minimum in unopened, original containers when stored between 60 and 90 deg. F in a dry place away from sunlight. Remixing of components may be required upon prolonged storage.
Mixing: PremcoLaminate Epoxy Adhesive is a two-component system. The resin to hardener (Part A : Part B) mix ratio is 1 :1, by volume. Read all material safety data (MSDS) information before handling the product. Wear safety glasses and clean neoprene rubber gloves when handling the materials, Premix the individual components before drawing from bulk packaging. Transfer the appropriate quantities of Part A and Part B into a mixing container. Use quantities that can be applied before the pot life of the material
expires. Blend thoroughly using a Jiffy mixer blade attached to a low-speed (350 – 750 rpm) electric or pneumatic drill. Proper mixing will take 2 – 3 minutes.
Installing for bonded, external reinforcement: Apply the neat
mixed PremcoLaminate Epoxy Adhesive onto the concrete with a trowel or spatula to a nominal thickness of 1.5 mm (1/16 in). Apply mixed Premco Laminate Epoxy Adhesive onto the Premco Carbon Fiber Laminate with a “roof-shaped” spatula to a nominal thickness of 1.5 mm (1/16 in). Within the epoxy, open time and depending on the temperature, place Premco Carbon Fiber Laminate onto the concrete surface.
Using a hard rubber roller, press the laminate into the epoxy resin until the adhesive is forced out on both sides. Remove excess adhesive. Glue line should not exceed 3 mm (1/8 in).
The laminate must not be disturbed for a minimum of 24 hours.
The epoxy will reach its design strength after 7 days
